The GTA 6 Trailer View Count, Corrected: 90.4 Million, Not 93
Trailer 1 broke the internet and then broke the record books. The headline number is reported two different ways, and the difference is not a rounding error.
Trailer 1 set records that still stand. It also produced the single most corrupted statistic in Grand Theft Auto coverage, and it is worth untangling because you will see both numbers quoted as if they were the same one.
The adjudicated figure is 90,421,491 views in 24 hours, certified by Guinness World Records for Most viewed videogame trailer in 24 hours. That is the precise, verified number.
The figure you see more often is "more than 93 million," attributed to YouTube and reported by Variety. Strauss Zelnick used the 93 million figure on Take-Two's February 2024 earnings call. It is not wrong so much as differently measured, and the two are routinely blended into a single sourceless claim.
A third number, around 85 million, appeared in early coverage from Kotaku. That was a snapshot taken while the 24-hour clock was still running. It is not the record and should not be cited as one.
The records themselves: most viewed videogame trailer in 24 hours; most viewed non-music YouTube video in 24 hours; and most liked videogame trailer on YouTube, at 8.9 million likes. The record it broke was MrBeast's "Every Country On Earth Fights For $250,000" from August 2023, at 59.4 million views in 24 hours.
A footnote for completeness, because it trips people up. Trailer 2 in May 2025 posted more than 475 million views in 24 hours — but that is a cross-platform total across YouTube, X and elsewhere. On YouTube alone it did roughly 83.6 million, so it did not beat Trailer 1's YouTube record. Cross-platform and single-platform figures are not comparable, and coverage of both trailers mixes them constantly.
Our rule here is simple: give the number with its source, or do not give the number.
