GTA 6 Frame Rate: What Rockstar Has Confirmed About 60 FPS (Nothing)
Leaks claim a 60 FPS performance mode. Analysts are sceptical. Rockstar has published no frame-rate target, no resolution and no graphics modes for any platform — and its own history points at 30.
Whether Grand Theft Auto VI runs at 60 frames per second on console has become one of the most searched questions about the game, and one of the least honestly answered. So, plainly: Rockstar has confirmed nothing. No frame-rate target, no resolution figure, no graphics-mode list, for PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro or Xbox Series X|S.
What the claims actually are
Leak-derived reports and some retailer listings have described a conventional split — a quality mode around 30 FPS and a performance mode targeting 60 — which is the standard arrangement for this console generation and would be unremarkable if true. A separate strand of speculation holds that 60 FPS will be achievable only on PS5 Pro, with its additional GPU headroom and upscaling hardware doing the work.
Neither has a first-party source. The 60 FPS figure has not appeared in any Rockstar material.
Why technical analysts are sceptical
Digital Foundry, whose entire discipline is measuring this, has publicly doubted the 60 FPS claims. The reasoning is straightforward: the two released trailers show simulation density — traffic, crowds, water, foliage, weather — well beyond what current open-world titles sustain, and that density is paid for in frame time. A studio that has built its reputation on world detail is unlikely to halve its frame budget to double a number.
What the studio has actually shipped
Grand Theft Auto IV, Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption 2 all launched on console targeting 30 FPS. In every case Rockstar chose visual fidelity over frame rate at launch, and in every case higher frame rates arrived later, on PC or on a subsequent console generation. That is three for three across eighteen years, and it is the strongest available evidence about a game the company has not discussed.
It is not proof. Hardware has moved, 60 FPS modes are now an expectation rather than a luxury, and Rockstar is capable of changing its approach. But an expectation is not a specification.
The honest summary
A 60 FPS mode is plausible, unconfirmed, and doubted by the people best equipped to judge. Rockstar has said nothing, and until it does, any article quoting a specific frame rate for GTA 6 is quoting a leak or a guess. We will publish the numbers when there are numbers to publish.
